This is one of the most important things you can do; find out where you are. If you aren’t willing to do this then you might as well STOP right now because if you don’t know where are at then, you’ll never find out where you are going.

Therefore, baton down the hatches and get the job done. I cannot stress enough how important this first step is! I know I know what you are thinking, how can it be that hard to start? A wise man once told me, you don’t have to be great to start; you just have to start to be GREAT!

Therefore, the first step on our road to get to where we want to be is to figure out where you are. Now don’t be shy, if you are at the bottom, so what, there is only one way to go and that is up. Now can we really be objective, look at our life, and be honest with our self? If you can’t you might as well just stop right now, I can’t help you!

Now if you think you can look at your life and see what may be wrong or not where you really want to be, that is great we have a start and we can move forward from there. Now no matter where you start at is ok, just realize when you know where you are you can then move forward from there. How you may ask, simple you see where you are and do some should searching as to where it is you want to go.

Set down and think of one thing you can do today that will move you closer to whatever it is you are looking for or where you want to get to. Is it that easy? Yes, it is take one-step in the direction you want to go, no matter how small sooner than later you will be getting closer and closer to the thing that you want.

How can we have a healthy self-image, easy it begins with a simple smile! I bet you are saying to your self as simple as a smile? Yep it changes your mood really fast, as a matter of a fact try smiling right now, a great big one, you feel better don’t you if not try again.

Now you can feel it, good it’s a start, one way to do this is to understand that you are a child of God and know that he loves you unconditionally and he or she will never leave or forsake you, of this you can be sure, you are his or hers greatest achievement and he will never stop loving you, just as your earthly father will do what he has to do to protect his family.

Now that is only one way we are going to look a little deeper and try to get some good stuff to make our jobs easier to have a healthy self image. Now this is what you do, you get a pen and a peace of paper and start listing all the victories that you have ever had, now don’t pass this up and think it is foolish, because it is really important step in our journey to mental excellence.

You must just start with the day you got married how you felt. Well that is just one victory and another could be when you first road your bike without the training wheels. Now once you get started you will get on a roll and come up with plenty and you will see that you have won quite a few victories and that is how we start on the rode to having a healthy self-image!

Now as you list all the victories, even the smallest you can think of, they will start to build up and you will start to see your life is full of victories and the list keeps growing and growing. As you are writing the list down this will bring back positive feelings and everyone wins all around you and yes you even feel happier and more alive.

Now when your self-image slips below the bottom rung on the ladder then please get out the list with all the positives that have ever happened to you and you will see that hey, this happened I made it, that happened I made it and these are all victories that I have had. So no matter where you are at, carry this list of all the positives that go along with all the victories that you have ever had.

Now when you see the bad coming or your self-image is getting low you will want to whip out the list and see that you have conquered that before and by golly you can do it again. That list will always keep you to where it is that you want to go and if you remember that, the past has been worse and you came out on top. Then there is no reason to think it will not happen again, so keep the positive self-image by keeping your victories list with you at all times and use it when you must, that’s what we made it for!

When the eagle soars what keeps him in flight so effortlessly? Flying a crossed the sky on a warm summers day. How does he see his pray at such a long and distant way off in the still of the night? How can they dive at such a fast pace when mating and pull away just before it is to late to smash into the earth below?

Know that the same ancient stuff that gives eagles the ability to fly, is the same magnificent stuff that runs through the veins of a newborn child on a cold November morning! We shall call this stuff Life Force! The same Life Force that takes it last breath in the elderly here in the world of form, is the same life force that helps the teenager hit the winning home run to snatch the state championship from the opposing team!

This life force makes the world go around and all in it exist just the same. How can a fish have a purpose you may ask yourself? Please know that the fish has a purpose and that purpose is perfect and should be blessed and given the same reverence that any living thing should receive! Why you may ask yourself? The fish when caught and cooked shall become a meal for little Billy. It keeps him alive and the blood pumping through his veins, come to find out that little Billy grows up to invent the cure for cancer!

Little did we know that the fish that Billy ate one day, which keep him alive and the blood pumping, had a small part to play in the roll of helping millions to not suffer any more from a dreaded disease! The life force that ran through the fish, when cleaned and cooked gave Billy the energy to go on and nourished his body and that kept his mind strong so that he could carry out his mission or life’s work in this world of form.

The same life force that keep’s Billy going when the going was getting tough is the same life force that runs through the veins of all the little children who now live and get a chance to experience the same life force that little Billy did, because of his great discovery, what gave him that idea? Call it what you want. Call it luck, drive, a happing, a gift from God. YET I KNOW IT IS AND WAS LOVE AND THIS I CHOOSE TO CALL THE LIFE FORCE THAT HOLDS EVERYTHING TOGETER AND RUNS THROUGH EVERYTHING!

Did not God create the ocean as well as the bear? Then how can they be bad in anyway? What keeps the ocean from drying up and the bears heart pumping? Is it not the love of God? I believe so and I chose to call this amazing thing LIFE FORCE, THE INTIMATE LOVE OF GOD THAT RUNS THROUGH EVERYTHING AND KEEPS THE UNIVERSE IN BALANCE! So when you see the eagle soar, the baby cry, and the bear eat a fish and little Billy inviting the cure for cancer, know that they are all good and bless them and know that the love of God runs through all of them and this is the Life Force that I have been talking about!

When I see a picture of anyone’s family it reminds me how fortunate I am to have a beautiful wife and four great children, who are all healthy I might add, yet in the picture of my lovely wife and two beautiful daughters, it reminds me of the girl “stuff” that I have to put up with. I mean like never getting into the bathroom when I need to go and the ungodly time they spend in there “WHAT COULD THEY POSSIBLY BE DOING I THINK TO MYSELF?”

Then when I see the results I am truly amazed it’s like another woman who I can hardly recognize, who is more beautiful than the day I meet her and I thank God I did, she is truly a vision. Then I look at my two little angels who were hanging around mom in the bathroom and lo and behold she had time to put a new face on them too, “HOW DID SHE DO IT I THINK TO MY SELF” and I say ain’t that america

I remember the couple of distant friends that couldn’t have any children and I then silently pray for them as though it was myself and my wife who were in that situation, then I thank God for the happy outcome of this couples future and there yet to be unborn children, who will be brought into this world, of this I am sure. I get a call from my friend and he says guess what? I say what, by this time my mind is racing to try and guess the answer before he tells me! He “SCREAMS WE ARE HAVING TWINS” I respond that’s great! Then I remember that they were the couple that couldn’t have any children. Then I say to myself ain’t that America!

I see a group of boy’s playing baseball with my son in the open field next to our house and the little guy is up to bat, as far as I can tell he never gut’s a hit, but he tries so very hard and week after week he steps up to plate, pulls up his sagging draws and wipes his snotty nose and tries to spit like the big leaguers do, he even get’s some on his shoes. I laugh to myself. Strike one he misses the ball. By now my wife and me are watching as if Babe Ruth were batting himself. Strike two, he misses again. “Darn it” I say out loud. Here comes the pitch and he swings and he hits it, “RUN, RUN, RUN,” I yell at the top of my lungs, I look at my wife and smile. You see the little runt is my five old and I begin to cry.

Then I whisper to myself ain’t that America!

My daughter is going door to door selling Girl Scout cookies she stops and ties her shoe and takes a much needed rest, as you can tell she has been at it for some time now, as she sits on the sidewalk out of the corner of my eye I see a little old lady crossing the street, it seems like it is taking her forever to cross it. The old woman falls will my daughter get up? Will she help? Will she just ignore the lady in need, after all this is 2002 you know. I think to myself did I raise her properly? She gets up and as she is doing so she loses two of her order forms! What will she do now? I hold my breath and pray she does the right thing.

She takes off running right in the direction of the little old lady, is she running to help the lady or to get the order forms? Will she stop to help this elderly lady? As she approaches the lady, she looks toward the order forms and stops and sighs, it looks as though she is waving good bye to the order forms as she bends over to help the elderly lady up. I smile to myself and say ain’t that America!

So as you can plainly see there is still a bunch of things we can be thankful for in this great country of ours so when you she a bunch of boy’s playing ball or the girl scouts selling cookies or someone helping a elderly lady up or someone praying or how you love your children and wife, stop and say to yourself ain’t that America!
